White as snow...
Tried to take pictures of Hailee today. I've had this idea in my head for over 6 months of how I wanted the shoot to go. While searching locations for a different shoot, I happened upon this old cabin and little white church that spawned a bunch of ideas in my mind. The one that stuck was having Hailee in an older style white dress, standing outside the cabin, maybe holding some wild flowers.
I got there today in the morning, and it was cold. But the overcast sky was removing any harsh shadows, making the light easy to work with. Hailee wasn't too keen on standing still though, so I had to work fast. Anyone who has tried to photograph a cold two year old, outdoors, probably understands my struggle. Let's just say that the little angel I hoped for, holding the wildflowers, decided that it was much more fun to see how far the flowers would fly. I set my camera based upon what my meter was telling me, and clicked away. I didn't want her to actually catch a cold, so we didn't stay long.
I got home, downloaded the pictures, and just shook my head. I actually got some cute shots, but either the meter or the camera was off. All the shots, except for maybe one or two, were overexposed. Which turned her white dress into a bright white blob. I've noticed that my meter tends to expose on the high side, but this was way off. Totally blown out highlights, which in digital land means death.
Ahh well.. I'll reshoot it once the weather cooperates, and after I've had a chance to calibrate my meter better with my camera.
